BEST Buses in Mumbai are all out to reduce pollution

The BEST which is also known as Brihanmumbai Electricity supply and Transport undertaking will soon be using Bio-Diesel in their Buses which ply in Mumbai taking hundreds of passengers to their respective destinations. This decision to use Bio-diesel in the Buses was taken by the administration and the BEST Committee to reduce the pollution in the city. Biodiesel is a cleaner-burning diesel fuel made from natural and renewable sources like vegetable oils. It is biodegradable, nontoxic, and does not contain sulfur. For this purpose BEST is going to buy 6,000 litres of fuel which will give them an extra earning of Rs 1.36 core per annum.In addition to this the BEST will also make an extra profit of Rs 2 cores carbon credit in the international market. Said Spokesperson BEST. This decision was taken by the administration and the BEST committee of BEST for using Bio diesel in the Buses in Mumbai because this will not only reduce the emission of gases in the atmosphere but at the same time will help in reducing global warming .Uttam Khobragade, general manager BEST said, "The use of Bio-diesel in the buses will help us in reducing the cost of the fuel. In future the prices of Diesel may rise beyond help. Therefore the mixture of Bio-diesel is most feasible" Bio –diesel is not only cheap but also user friendly. BEST has been using Bio –Diesel since the last two years in the buses plying from the Vikhroli Depot on experimental basis. Best has found that mixing of 10-20 percent Bio –Diesel not only saves energy but also reduces smoke emission greatly. And at the same time it also does not affect the functioning of the engine of the Buses.
